I was staying just a few blocks from Central Park in New York on Tuesday night when a sudden, vicious storm came up. At first, I thought someone was throwing things at the window, which was odd, as I was on the 12th floor.
Then I realized it was hail and atrocious winds, pelting rain and hair-raising rounds of thunder...and then the lights flickered. I'm not particularly afraid of storms but this one, well, here's what happened in said park, "Brief, Violent Storm Turns Central Park Into an Obstacle Course of Downed Trees," an article in yesterday's NY Times by By Sewell Chan and Sarah Maslin Nir.
Sadly, more than 100 trees took the fall, some soon to be firewood. How sad.
