Times Square is not my favorite place in New York but circumstance took me there yesterday. Various meetings had me walking up, down, and across the "greater Times Square area," from 39th to 53rd Streets and from Fifth Avenue to Ninth. What struck me was the lack of humanity. Granted it was bitterly cold but that's the way it is in cities with tall buildings and low temperatures. Having walked these streets since I was quite young, I've never seen the city this quiet. I snapped this picture in the heart of Times Square at 4:30 PM, rush hour. If you've been there, you can judge the difference for yourself. We all know why.
