A number of people have asked me for the complete list of the 200 or so books read by our Fiction Book Club over the past 20-some years. My hubby and I are newcomers, relatively speaking, having joined about six years ago, so we've only read the past six dozen or so books.
Ours is that rare book club that is co-ed. We meet monthly (last night our house, where I served my famous Spiced Pecans), talk about what we've read, often interrupting one another in our enthusiasm, discuss what we're going to read next (generally, a book is vetted beforehand by one of the members), then indulge in dessert and profound conversation, of course.
Occasionally, the book's author joins us, this as a result of my frequent encounters with authors on trains. Seems that I can't travel from Boston-New York without being seated next to an author. Sometimes I'm not even on a train when I meet them. I cannot explain this but it's resulted in wonderful new friendships. Other times, we've been fortunate to have authors whom we (meaning me/I) know either in person or by conference call.
Last night I asked for a policy decision. Could I post our reading list here? Resounding affirmation. And I learned that the book club started around 1985, one of the founders being a former writing student of mine! I had no idea.
Enjoy our list current through Dec '05 (ooops, will upload the new one as soon as I receive it from our listmaster).
