Bryan Marquard's sensitive and insightful obit ("Daja Meston: Buddhist peace hid his inner struggles") in today's Boston Globe for our dear friend, Wangchuk. I've written about him and his wife Phuni a number of times before here, never expecting what has happened. Wangchuk, who struggled with depression, took his own life on July 11.
Phuni, along with their friends Robert Barnett, head of the Contemporary Tibetan Studies Program at Columbia University, and Patrick Curley, an attorney here in Boston, speak beautifully about Wangchuk in the obit. Please read it.
Today friends and family will gather for his memorial service at 3 PM at 10 Twin Pond Lane, Lincoln, MA.
We are all so very sad.

Jessica - I'm so sorry. What a shock that must have been for everyone who knew him. Sending strength your way today as you attend the service.

Hi Jessica-
I saw your quotes in the Sunday Globe obit and realized you must have been profoundly touched by your friend's life and untimely loss. Thinking of you and wishing you strength and peace.

Sadalit, the service was one-of-a-kind, something none of us will ever forget.
Mike, thanks for noticing. Bryan Marquard, the obit writer, is phenomenally talented and insightful. Hard to believe he could put that piece together with so little time.
Thanks both for commenting. I'll port over the FB comments too.

Douglass:
From the obituary: "Among those who encouraged Mr. Meston to write about his life was his friend Jessica Lipnack of West Newton.
“'I think the writing of the book was absolutely cathartic,' she said. 'He was getting stuff out, and the writing allowed him to look at something that was excruciatingly painful.'"
